Ruger 22-250

Ruger 22-250

Gun: 22-250 Ruger M77
I shoot a Ruger M77 in 22-250 caliber.  For the most part, this is standard rifle.   I bought it new and spent around $400 for it a few years back.  This rifle came with a sporter barrel and Ruger scope rings.  The only customizations to the rifle have been to adjust the trigger pull to 4.5 pounds, pillar bed and float the barrel, and the custom paint job.
The 4.5 pound trigger might be a bit on the heavy side for some of you, but when hunting in South Dakota with wind chills in the -40 degrees and a pair of gloves on, I didn't want any accidental firings while trying to get my finger on the trigger.
Pillar bedding and floating the barrel is a must, unless your gun comes that way.   There are just too many things that can go wrong if you don't.  Prior to floating the barrel on this gun, I wasted valuable time trying to figure out why I was shooting great some days and terrible on others.  It turned out the stock was touching the barrel slightly.  Save yourself the time and aggravation, just have the work done.
If you're wondering who did the custom paint job, it was Ken.  He used some non-glare pant and his own pattern.  I like it!
Scope: Leupold 3x9 VarX II, Matte finish, Duplex
I leave the scope on 9 power all the time.  I used to shoot an old Weaver 4x for many years.  When Ken finally talked me into upgrading, the 3x9 sounded like more than enough power.  If you shoot varmints at extreme distances, you'll want more.   I shoot most coyotes at 150 yards or less, so this scope works great.  I do shoot an occasional coyote at 300-350, but not very often.  Ken, on the other hand, has a very different style.  For more about his scopes read on down farther.
Ammo: Hand loaded, Win Brass, 52gr Speer HPBT, 38.0gr H380
Refer to your reloading manuals and always start at the low end when reloading.  BE SAFE!  If you blow up your gun or yourself, it's hard to shoot any coyotes.
