Rhino Call

What a beauty!  The good news is that it sounds even better than it looks.  I like this call for early season work, before it gets too cold.  This is closed reed varmint call made by Jay Nistetter of Phoenix, Arizona.  It's   African Blackwood with a style 05 flare and comes with a cottontail double stainless reed for loud volume.  Jay hand selects the hardwoods for tightness of grain and tonal qualities.  They are hand turned and hand tuned for the best possible results.  You can read more about Jays calls in the Varmint Hunter magazine, January 2001, Issue #37.  The article "How to Call Predators" by Steven R. LaMascus on page 44 talks about Rhino Calls and their superior quality.

Crit' R Call PeeWee

The Crit' R Call PeeWee is a small call.  This one is mounted in part of an old duck call for easier handling and slightly more volume.  Note the lanyard with a clip.  This makes changing calls very quick and easy.  I use the athletic tape to dampen the noise of the calls bumping together.  I've had coyotes look in my direction when I set my call down to shoot and it hit another call in the process.   Keep the noise to a minimum.  More on Crit' R Calls.

Crit' R Call Standard

The Crit' R Call Standard is a also a some what small call.  This one is mounted in a cow horn for easier handling and alot more volume.  More on Crit' R Calls.

Crit' R Call Magnum

The Crit' R Call Magnum is a large call and doesn't require any modifications to increase the volume.   You can see the athletic tape on this call, just like the PeeWee had.  I like deer call with the Magnum.  It takes a little practice, but once you've got it, you can do it all day long with little effort.   More on Crit' R Calls.

Tally-Ho

favtally.jpg (27198 bytes)

The Tally-Ho is a small call that is very hard to handle with gloves or mittens on.  Once again, I have mounted the call in a cow horn for easier handling and more volume.  I like to deer call with Tally-Ho just like I do with the Critter Call Magnum.  This is easier to learn than with the Critter Call Magnum.   The sound I make is a very bland Waaa, Waaa, Waaa.  Wait 30 seconds and repeat.  I try to sound like a fawn in distress, but I don't over do it.

Johnny Stewart Electronic Caller

This is a Johnny Stewart MS512 Electronic Caller equipped with a long range speaker and remote control.  I have the unit wrapped in soft insulation and a white tee-shirt.  This helps to keep the batteries warm in the winter and working longer.  I also charge the unit between stands if we are driving in the truck.   Note the Jell-O box holding the receiver.  This is a prime example of using what you have.  I can set the caller farther away when the antenna is positioned up in the air.
